A martingale collar helps prevent a dog from slipping out of their collar. Unlike traditional collars that have to be buckled uncomfortably tight to prevent escape, a martingale collar is loose and comfortable until engaged. Adjusted properly, a martingale collar never chokes, but contracts snugly to prevent the dog from slipping its collar. A martingale collar is made with two loops. The large loop is placed around the dog's neck and adjusted to fit comfortably. The leash is then clipped to the D ring on the smaller loop. When the dog pulls against the collar, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop taut, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck preventing escape. The two metal guides stop the collar from restricting too much and do not choke the dog.

Best collar for a lurcher that I have tried.

Best collar for a lurcher I have tried for a reasonable price. Have ordered two this time as my dog is very active and has access to fields to run in and really likes the marsh ground. Comes back dripping black mud....... The collars have taken that for up to year before beginning to give up the ghost. It is only the cotton covering that begins to wear thin and if your dog is not a marsh loved imagine they would last much longer. I wash hers, by hand, frequently to get the mud out. On average every two to three days so am impressed they last that long. Highly recommend.
